Free State Sack Coach Kavazovic, Plan Mass Clear Out

Relegated South African side Free State Stars have parted ways with Serbian coach Nikola Kavazovic.

Relegated South African side Free State Stars have parted ways with Serbian coach Nikola Kavazovic.

This comes after last weekend’s relegation from the Premier League soccer following the 1-0 defeat to champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chairman Rantsi Mokoena says they had to do a clear-out that has seen most of the players exit due to a massive drop in the club’s income.

“We woke up on Monday morning and realized we have lost two-thirds of our income and had to stop feeling sorry for ourselves. So we are restructuring to plan for life in the NFD,” he told Soccer Laduma.

Mokoena further revealed that his club is in negotiations with other clubs over the services of some of his players.

“I am in negotiations with several clubs over the services of some of our players and we will make announcements in due course. It’s a situation we have found ourselves in and have to adjust to our current circumstances. We had to do this as soon as possible because we literally have about a month before pre-season and starting afresh in a new league,” he added.

Kavazovic controversially joined Free States in January after parting ways with Kenyan side, AFC Leopards.
