French Coach Hubert Velud Quits Tunisian League Giants Sahel

It’s headline upon headlines in Tunisia with the resignation of Hubert Velud the latest to come out of the North African country’s football league.

French gaffer Velud over the weekend ended his one-year love affair with Tunisian giants Etoile Sportive du Sahel after much speculation regarding his future.

The 58-year-old has been on the receiving end of criticisms since after the club’s exit in the Total Caf Champions League semi-finals to Egypt’s Al Ahly.

The former TP Mazembe’s tactician has endured a nightmarish spell since that defeat amid reports of his imminent departure.

Days following the painful Caf Cup exit, it was even claimed Velud had been compensated and his contract terminated after he failed to show up to oversee the usual morning training.

So riffed was this rumour that Hubert had to issue a statement denying the claim.

However, on Saturday, having realised that the board hasn’t been forthcoming on opening negotiations for a contract renewal, the ex-Nancy manager opted to call time to his career with Sahel.

His resignation is been viewed as much of a relief for the club’s hardcore supporters who’d labelled him a ‘mercenary ‘in previous matches.

Boumnijel and Kais Zouaghi and the two named as interim managers until a permanent replacement is found.
