The coach for Gabon’s men national football team Patrice Neveu has tested positive or Covid-19, the Gabon Football Federation (Fegafoot) said in a statement on Wednesday.
Fegafoot confirmed their coach will isolate for 14 days after contracting the deadly virus while on visits to European based Gabonese players plying their trades in the European Leagues.
However, Neveu was able to announce his 24-man squad to face DR Congo and Angola in their final two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, in a press conference conducted via Zoom.
The Gabon national team will take on DR Congo at the Stade de Franceville on 25 March in the penultimate qualifier before travelling to Luanda for the final qualifier against Angola.
The Panthers are in Group D alongside the likes of Gambia, Angola and DR Congo, with the Scorpions leading the group with seven points, the same number of points as Gabon in second place.
Meanwhile, DR Congo occupies third place with six points, while Angola sit at the foot of the group with one point.
Neveu’s side have two matches left to play to further their chances of qualifying for the AFCON finals in Cameroon next year.
