Gambia Look To Humble Guinea

Gambia will be hoping to continue with their fine run in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations when they face Guinea in the Round of 16.

The highly anticipated clash is slated for Monday evening with the Scorpions hoping to progress to the next at the expense of the Syli Nationale.

Looking at their group stage run, the Gambians finished at number two in Group F with seven points from two wins and one draw.

By reaching the knockout stages, the Tom Saintfiet -coached side will be motivated by the possibility of a quarterfinal spot.

Their mission is to reach the final and make history by becoming the first team to win the Nations Cup in their debut.

Strikers Ablie Jallow and Modou Barrow are the men set to cause all sorts of troubles for the fellow West Africans.

On the other hand, Tunisia will be also hoping to bag their second continental trophy after claiming it in 2004 at home.

On the other hand, Guinea will be also hoping to bag their maiden continental trophy after claiming a runners-up position 49 years ago.

The Syli Nationale advanced to the Round of 16 after finishing second in Group B which consisted Senegal, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Guinea coach Kaba Diawara will be eager to lead his side to an important victory over an unfancied Gambian side.

This will be the first Africa Cup of Nations encounter between Guinea and Gambia, while Guinea are unbeaten against teams making their debut in the competition.

In head-to-head stats, Gambia and Guinea have met two times, and the previous encounters came during the Afcon 2008 qualifying campaign. The Syli Nationale won 2-0 in March 2007 before the return fixture in June that year finished 2-2.
