Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt believes the Amakhosi outfit put forth a good performance in their goalless draw to Horoya in their opening game of the 2020-21 CAF Champions League Group Stages at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday evening.
Chiefs played well in patches and found form in the second half and in most of the occasions the South African gaffer was seen shaking his head in disbelief as his team should have picked up all three points.
“I think we did enough to win the game, but it didn’t happen. That’s football – if you understand football, it’s one of those things,” said Hunt as per KickOff.com
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”We kept trying to get in there but [it didn’t bear fruit]. It’s a good, positive result to take forward but obviously disappointment not to win the game at home, as we should have.”[/perfectpullquote]
Horoya conceded a number of set pieces from the Amakhosi’s pressure and far side assistant referee Mogomotsi Morakile spent most of the time ruling offside decisions.
“[In the second half] we changed the inside midfield players a little bit and tried to get them into better, wider areas, that’s all we tried to do and it was right,” he added.
“Once we got them into better wide areas, you get better service, which happened and we scored two goals – possibly the one was off-side but I don’t think the other one was.
“So, it worked but you can stand and talk all day… It was a good effort from the players – that’s the most important thing; the intensity was better; the attitude was good from the weekend as well.
“So, these things happen in football, we’ve got to grind and go through it, and that’s pretty much [it]. There’s not really much [else to say]. The most important thing was the good attitude.”
Kaizer Chiefs now haven’t won in seven matches across all competitions and are set to face Wydad Casablanca in Burkina Faso in the rescheduled match on Sunday.
Horoya, who beat Angolan club Petro Atletico 2-0 in Conakry earlier this month, retained their spot atop Group C, with Chiefs occupying third spot.
