Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it is investigating allegations of match fixing in a Ghana Premier League match played on Sunday.
The match in question is the final day of the season’s tie played at the Len Clay Stadium where Ashanti Gold thrashed Inter Allies 7-0.
Allies defender Hashim Musah netted two own goals to end the encounter before coming out to claim that he deliberately sent the ball into his own net in order to destroy the investment of bettors.
The win by the Miners had already raised eyebrows in the manner which the other five goals were scored ,forcing GFA to launch a probe into the matter.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to inform all its members and the public that the Association has opened investigations into the Ghana Premier League Match-day 34 game played between Ashanti Gold SC and Inter Allies FC at the Len Clay stadium at Obuasi on Saturday, July 17, 2021,” revealed GFA in a statement.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“The Association will immediately require statements from the two clubs and the players and the technical team members of the two clubs.[/perfectpullquote]
“The GFA further urges any member of the public, the media, players, technical team members to also send any evidence or information whatsoever connected to the match (a statement, video, audio etc) to assist the investigations through the GFA integrity Hotline and email.”
Ducor Sports understands that the compliance and integrity officer of the federation is working with the GFA Prosecutors and other experts in the investigation.
GFA is expected to further lodge a complaint on the match with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana wing of Interpol for the criminal investigation of the game.
It is not the first time Ashanti Gold have been caught in match-fixing saga as in March last year the club president Kwaku Frimpong questioned a 6-1 defeat at the hands Academy Boys in a league match.
