Gor Mahia Announces Lucrative Sponsorship Deal

Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia on Monday unveiled betting firm BetAfriq as the new shirt sponsors.

The multi-year-deal with BetAfriq is worth $69,000 and is aimed at motivating the team which is expected to improve its profile starting next season.

The sponsorship will also go towards covering the players’ salaries, logistical operations within the club as well as paying for newly branded team apparel.

“We are pleased to announce Betafriq as our new shirt sponsor. We have signed a three-year year deal worth KSh76.5 million per year – includes KSh5m for kitting and KSh1.5 million for players’ insurance,” the club said in a statement published on its social media pages on Monday.

Gor Mahia are reported to have been approached by other potential sponsors the club management has said are not in conflict with the main sponsor.

The sponsorship deal with BetAfriq has removed a huge burden off Gor Mahia who were hitherto severally faced by financial difficulties.

Gor Mahia  suffered a setback in June after betting firm Betsafe terminated its partnership with one year left on the deal.

Initially the club was receiving Sh55 million per season but the amount was reduced by a half in July 2021 due to effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
