Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia have appointed Posta Rangers mentor Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo as the stand-in coach for their African Champions league preliminary round clash away to Rwandan outfit APR on Saturday.
K’Ogalo were forced to make the appointment after their coach Roberto Oliveira Goncalves do Carmo aka Robertinho was barred from sitting on the bench for not having CAF A License or UEFA Pro License which is required for all coaches participating in the African football governing body’s inter-club competitions.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Gor Mahia confirmed the appointment saying they have picked Omollo to lead for the fixture against APR they team as they sort the issue regarding to Robertinho’s papers.
“Gor Mahia have agreed with a Kenyan premier League coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo to be the stand-in coach for the team against APR of Rwanda in a CAF preliminary tie,” the club confirmed on Sunday evening.
“This is coming after CAF disqualified head coach Roberto Oliviera for ‘lack’ of required qualification, as per CAF guidelines, to lead the team in any CAF assignment – according to new regulations.”
Robertinho holds License B Brazil and CAF C License which bars him from sitting on the bench until he acquires prerequisite qualifications.
Gor Mahia are set to travel on Wednesday for Rwanda to play hosts APR in a match set to be played at Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali.
The aggregate winner will advance to the next stage of the competition where he will meet the winner in the match between CR Belouizdad of Algeria and Libyan side El Nasr.
