Gor Mahia have now concluded the signing of former Rayon Sports striker Jules Ulimwengu, the Kenyan Premier League giants confirmed on Monday.
The move has long been anticipated, after Burundian forward failed to return to his Chinese second-tier side Shaanxi Chaang’an Athletic following the lapse of his loan spell at Gikundiro.
“Burundian international Jules Ulimwengu joins Gor Mahia on a two-year contract deal becoming the latest addition to the squad,” Gor made the announcement on their official website.
“Ulimwengu is a centre forward who has been featuring for his national team side and has previously played for a number of clubs in Africa including Vital’O FC, LLB Sports 4 Africa FC, Sunrise FC and recently Rayon Sports FC of Rwanda.
“The marksman, in the previous seasons while playing for his immediate former club (Rayon Sports FC), scored 12 goals that propelled them to lift their league’s trophy.
He joins former Western Stima forward Benson Omalla and South Sudan international Tito Okello as striking options at the club and will be a welcome addition to a new striking unit following the departure of Dickson Ambundo and Juma Balinya.
“I know Gor Mahia is a big team and when I came here, I knew well where I was heading. I know there will be competition to play but I will work hard and I believe everything will be okay. My expectation is to work well with my teammates and win the league as well go far in the continental matches,” Ulimwengu said after his unveiling.
The 21-year-old becomes the second Burundian striker in recent history to play for K’Ogalo after his compatriot Francis Mustapha, who left the Kenyan side two seasons ago.
In his previous stint at Rayon, Ulimwengu scored 12 goals in the 2018/19 Azam Rwanda Premier League and inspired the side to their ninth Azam Rwanda Premier League title.
