Kenya’s Gor Mahia have been eliminated from 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup by AS Otoho d’Oyo of Congo Brazzaville.
Gor were dumped out of the competition at the play-offs on 2-1 aggregate after they could only salvage a 1-1 draw in the second leg at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.
Ronald Okouri got the visitors in front on the 10th minute of play before John Macharia levelled the scoreline for the home side two minutes later.
Mark Harrison’s side struggled to get going in the opening exchanges of the half, as they were often wasteful when in possession of the ball.
After netting the equalizer Gor efforts at goal proved to be a few long range efforts, although they failed to trouble Wilfrigon Mongondza between the sticks.
Ulimwengu should have doubled the lead in the 40th minute, he pounced on a poor back pass form Otoho’s Sakande Souleyman but could not keep his composure as he dragged his effort wide of the mark.
The visitors got stronger as the second half went on, controlling possession of the ball, as well as restricting the K’ogalo in attack.
Substitute Sydney Ochieng’ best effort of the half in the 85th minute, as he headed over from close range.
Wilfrigon Mongondza came to Otoho’s rescue two minutes later, with a great reaction save to keep to deny Ulimwengu.
Gor Mahia pushed for the winner in the closing stages of the game but could bypass an in-form Mongondza who denied the Kenyans two clear cut chances.
