Kenya’s Gor Mahia have received a stern warning from Algeria’s Nasr Athlétique de Hussein Dey ahead of Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup clash at Stade 5 Juillet 1962 in Algiers.
Gor overcame the Algerian outfit 2-0 at the Kasarani Stadium in their Group D Day Three clash and go into the tie knowing how important three points are to their quarter-final hopes.
Hussein Dey through their official Facebook page warned that the contest on Sunday is far from over in what is sure to be an intimidating environment in Algiers.
“It is a debt. When you come to Algeria you will see our real face. The (Gor Mahia) management did not provide a bus, and they took us to train at a cricket field. Then during the game, they threw things at the pitch,” the posts read.
Hussein Day ended the first-leg match with only ten men on the pitch after one of their dependable midfielders received his second yellow card of the match.
The Algerian side officials caused a temporary stoppage at the tail end of the match in protest of the red card.
Francis Kahata and Jacques Tuyisenge scored a goal each for the hosts who now top their group with six points.
During the post-match interview, Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay also confirmed having been warned by the Algerian reserve players and other members of the team’s technical bench who spoke in Arabic.
“I am not fluent in Arabic but during the game, I saw people coming to the bench and saying things like ‘you are coming to Algeria! You are coming to Algeria!’ and I didn’t understand why they were saying that,” he said.
Close to 80,000 fans are expected to attend the match, which no doubt further adds to the pressure Oktay’s men are facing.
