Gor Mahia’s preparations for the 2020/2021 African Champions League first round, second leg match against CR Belouizdad could be hindered by a financial crisis currently hitting the club.

Ducor Sports understands that the club’s first team players have for the second day in a row boycotted training over unpaid salaries.

The players refused to train on Friday, demanding payments for the past three months, with others claiming unpaid signing wages.

Reliable sources added that the players also, on Saturday 2 January, boycotted training overs the same issue.

“The players have for the second consecutive staged a sit-in at Camp Toyoyo demanding to be paid salaries,” the source said.

“Efforts by the management to convince the players to train have so far been fruitless. The club’s chairman and other officials are still in a meeting with the players and maybe everything will be fine after that.”

The Kenyan champions are supposed to be currently preparing for the Champions League first round, second leg match against Algeria’s CR Belouizdad that will be played on Wednesday.

The Sammy Omollo’s coached side are trailing 6-0 from their demolition in Algiers on Boxing Day.

Amir Sayoud scored a hat-trick with Hamza Bellahouel, Larbi Tabti, and Maecky Ngombo netting the rest of the goals during the one-sided display at the Stade du 5 Juillet 1962.
