Gor Mahia were full value for their 4-1 victory in Sunday’s Kenyan Premier League clash against rivals AFC Leopards with K’Ogalo missing a host of chances to extend the score-line at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.
Leopards dominated the processions in statistics but were unable to create a single chance in the opening 20 minutes.
Gor, meanwhile, could not get their passing game going for the entire half, as the likes of Joash Onyango and Bernard Ondiek struggled to contain Leopards’ midfield trio.
Leopards had the first real opportunity in the 42nd minute when John Makwatta’s acrobatic effort sailed just wide of Mapigano’s upright.
Neither coach would have been delighted with the first half showings, especially Mbungo, having seen his side dominated the entire 45 minutes.
The hosts threatened a comeback five minutes after the break when Miheso picked out Yikpe with pin-point delivery, but the latter headed off the post before Afryie hit the side-netting in the 52nd minute.
Gor Mahia eventually took the lead in the 56th minutes when Yikpe headed Kenneth Muguna’s corner past Leopards goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan.
Steven Pollack’s charges doubled their lead in the 64th minute from a sumptuous move orchestrated by Yikpe before picking Miheso with the winger beating off a series of players before cutting it back for the striker who tapped the effort into the back of the net.
Gor dominated the proceedings in the middle of the park as they showed hunger going forward and in the 79th minute Clifton Miheso scored against his former side with a long-range effort, beating a diving Ochan.
Leopards pulled one later with Tresor Ndikumana with his trademark thunderbolt beating David Mapigano between the posts.
Towards the dying minutes, Lawrence Juma fired to the back of the net after a good lay-off by Boniface Omondi and Gor Mahia made it 4-1.
At the other end of the pitch in the 90th minute, Leopards came close to putting their noses for the second when Makwatta had a good chance to shoot, but only managed to put it wide of the goal.
That was to be the last notable opportunity of the match, which fizzled out.
