Guinea-Bissau FA Chief Manuel Nascimento To Appeal FIFA Ban

Guinea-Bissau FA boss Manuel Nascimento has announced that he will lodge a complaint before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Guinea-Bissau FA boss Manuel Nascimento has announced that he will lodge a complaint before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

This move comes after the FIFA Disciplinary Committee banned the controversial football administrator from football-related activities for 10 years over an incident of mob justice.

According to the football governing body, Nascimento was found guilty for his involvement and participation in an incident of mob justice against a man in West African country.

The ban was imposed by the world football governing body after its independent ethics committee went through information provided including video material.

Nascimento was also hit with a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs Swiss (about 93 thousand Euros) for the offence.

While pleading innocence, Nascimento says that he is galvanizing all resources and the deserved courage to clear his name and unchain himself from the FIFA ban which hit him unexpectedly.

“I am going to make a legal appeal because I am a law-abiding person who loves his country,” said Nascimento.

“On  Monday I will have all the documents from the Ministry of Justice and also from the Ministry of the Interior to show the world that I am innocent,” he added.

Nascimento was elected in 2012 and was due to stand for a third four-year term in Saturday morning elections at capital Bissau.

Five candidates are running for the presidency of the Football Federation of Guinea-Bissau following the ban imposed on Nascimento.

Benelivio Cabral Nancassa Insali, Fernando Domingos Tarves, Antonio Barbosa da Silva, Mutaro Barri and Paulo Mendonca are running for the post after former Estrela Negra de Bissau chairman Carlos Mendes Teixeira withdrew from the race at the eleventh hour.
