Guinea-Bissau FA Presidential Elections Postponed

The highly anticipated Guinea-Bissau Football Federation (FFGB) scheduled for Saturday July 25 at the port of Alto Bandim in Bissau will not take place after electoral commission stopped the exercise.

The highly anticipated Guinea-Bissau Football Federation (FFGB) presidential elections for Saturday July 25 at the port of Alto Bandim in Bissau will not take place after the electoral commission stopped the exercise.

An official from one of the affiliates confirmed the development but he declined to shed more light on the issue.

FFGB president Manuel Nascimento Lopes challengers, Benelivio Cabral Nancassa Insali, Fernando Domingos Tarves, Antonio Barbosa da Silva, Mutaro Barri and Paulo Mendonca appealed that the name of Nascimento must be removed from the ballot papers.

In its determination, the FFGB electoral commission has moved to fix another date on 8 August to give room for consultations with the candidates and delegates regarding FIFA’s decision to ban Nascimento.

On Friday, FIFA banned the controversial football administrator from football-related activities for 10 years over an incident of mob justice.

Nascimento was also hit with a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs Swiss (about 93 thousand Euros) for the offence.

Initially, the Guinea-FA presidential elections were to have seven candidates but former Estrela Negra de Bissau chairman Carlos Mendes Teixeira withdrew from the race at the eleventh hour.

Teixeira declared his support Nascimento or the good of Guinea-Bissau football and most especially for the interest of national teams.

Ducor Sports understands that Guinea-Bissau’s High Commissioner for the fight against Covid-19 also demanded for the cancellation of the FFGB Ordinary Congress because the venue does not meet conditions for social distance.
