Guinea-Bissau Players Rushed to Hospital in Rabat after Suffering Food Poisoning

As many as 25 Guinea-Bissau national team players are currently receiving treatment at a Rabat hospital after suffering a bout of food poisoning.

The players and some members of technical bench fell ill after eating dinner on Tuesday night, just few hours to their 2022 World Cup Qualifier against Morocco.

They were all rushed to the hospital which is close to the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

Guinea-Bissau Football Association (FFGB) has issued a press release, confirming that all the team players are in hospital.

“All 25 players at Coach Baciro Candé’s disposal are experiencing vomit and diarrhea after dinner tonight,” read a short statement. “Equally, the elements of the technical team are in the same situation.

“Players are currently being transported to hospital by ambulances to get more intensive care.

“FFGB officials have tried unsuccessfully to contact the Sierra Leonean match commissioner to inform him about the situation.”

FFGB wants the match to be postponed to a later date so as to give time for their players to fully recover from food contamination.

” With this situation I don’t know if players are in a position to play tonight “, FFGB Communication Officer Valdumar Tchongo said on Wednesday.

The Confederation of African (CAF) is yet to comment on the issue with just ten hours remaining to the crucial Group I encounter.

Guinea-Bissau are unbeaten in each of their last four outings, picking up three wins and one draw and this has been owing to their free-scoring frontmen who have netted 11 goals in that time.
