Guinea-Bissau To Play Two Friendlies In Portugal In October

Djurtus head coach Baciro Cande has confirmed that his charges will play at least two international friendlies matches during the FIFA window in October.

Djurtus head coach Baciro Cande has confirmed that his charges will play at least two international friendlies matches during the FIFA window in October.

According to Cande, Guinea-Bissau will take on The Gambia on October 9 in Portugal and will then face Mozambique at the same venue four days later.

The costs of arranging the friendlies will be borne by the Football Federations of Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia and Mozambique.

Since their 3–0 defeat to Congo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Brazzaville on November 17, 2019, the Djurtus are yet to play a match this year owing to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re going to play The Gambia on the 9th [of October], and we’re going to play Mozambique on 13th [of October],” Cande confirmed to the media.

Cande also expressed confidence that Djurtus will qualify to Africa Cup of Nations finals for the third time in a row.

He said his charges need to win their two remaining home matches and secure at least two draws for them to book a ticket to Cameroon.

Cande also talked about Guinea-Bissau born Barcelona prodigy, Ansu Fati acknowledging that he would like to see him donning Djurtus’ jersey.

The friendlies against the Scorpions and the Mambas will serve as preparatory games ahead of their back-to back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Senegal in November.
