Guinea national team players have been lauded by head coach Paul Put despite losing 3-1 to Egypt in their final pre-AFCON friendly match.

Goals from Marwan Mohsen, Ahmed Ali and Omar Gaber condemned Guinea to the loss but Put has chosen to focus on the positives rather than the loss.

“In the first half we performed well and both sides were creating chances. But we gave Egypt a gift by giving them the chance to score the first goal,” told Onsports TV channel

“The game was becoming harder, however, the players performed really well against a huge side and a candidate to reach the final.”

“We failed to keep the draw, especially after Mohamed Salah came on as he’s a big player that can make a difference at any moment. Because he’s very dangerous and give his teammates a lot of confidence.”

Guinea’s first game in the competition will be against Madagascar on June 22, before they take on the Super Eagles four days later.

The West Africans’ final Group B match will be against Burundi on 30 June.
