Guinea are facing a claim of wrongful dismissal as they prepare for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations after departure of Didier Six, their national team head coach last week.
The former Syli Nationale coach has instructed his legal team to prepare the claim after two years with the national team.
Six received the news of his dismissal via local press as Guinea Football Federation Normalization Committee never formalized his ouster and at the same time signed a contract with former assistant coach Kaba Diawara on Saturday to lead the selection at the next African Cup of Nations.
“I am still under contract with the federation and the Guinean government. So far, I have not received any notification of any decision to notify me that I am relieved of my duties,” Six said in an interview.
“I was recently called by the Minister of Sports. Since then, no more news. I am not relieved of my duties until proven otherwise. I worked on my African Nations Cup lineup and on my list of 40 players.
“There are five signatures that bind me to the federation and to the government .There is an unfair dismissal. I have a right to a certain claim. ”
Six was appointed as Guinea coach in August 2019 replacing Paul Put, who was sacked after Guinea exited 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
He qualified Guinea for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals set to begin on January 9-February 6 in Cameroon during which they will play against Malawi (January 10), Senegal (January 14) and Zimbabwe (January 18).
The 67-year-old has experience of high-level coaching in African football having led Togo to the quarter-finals of the Nations Cup in 2013.
As a player he played across Europe in his native France, England, Germany, Turkey and Belgium.
He played for France at the 1978 and 1982 World Cup tournaments.
