Guinea Stripped Of AFCON Hosting Rights By CAF

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has stripped Guinea the hosting rights of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, according to reports.

The Executive Committee of CAF took the decision after the country failed to meet the required standards set by continent’s football governing body.

The verdict was presented to Guinea’s ruling junta by CAF mission that had visited the country on Wednesday.

The Guinean government had declared that hosting the 2025 Nations Cup was an issue of national and priority interest.

The African football chiefs however expressed great concern with the security situation in the country with regards to the political situation in the West African country, which has been under military rule since a coup last year.

The decision is set to send a shockwave among the countries top administrators, including several normalization committee members who made the bold declaration that they would resign if Guinea would lose out on the chance to host this competition.

Guinea were initially set to host the 2023 AFCON but were awarded the 2025 tournament after Cameroon was stripped off the hosting right of the 2019 edition. Cameroon was then awarded the 2021 edition and the 2020 African Nations Championship.
