Following a six-year spell in Europe, there is now a chance that David “Cheche” Ochieng could make a return to the SportPesa Premier League after he touched down in Kenya recently.
The 26-year-old parted ways with Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna having struggled to find playtime at the Stockholm-based club, making a paltry 13 appearances in 30 league games.
Already AFC Leopards has shown interest in bringing him on board on a short-term contract during the March transfer window which opens on Monday next week.
“There are a few clubs that have shown interest but I am yet to make up my mind. I just want to sign a short-term contract because I have plans to go back to Europe during the summer so before then, I want to keep my fitness and competitive levels up,” the defender told Nairobi based radio station Capital FM.
Ochieng has spent time with Al Taawon, New York Cosmos before making the switch to Bromma while locally, the towering central defender had played for Nairobi Stima, Tusker FC and AFC Leopards.
“It has been a tough period over the last season but I am determined to work hard and get back to the top. Sometimes in a career there are setbacks and on this is one, I am focused on getting over this setback,” he further stated.
If a deal involving the player and Ingwe officials is agreed upon, Casa Mbungo will be eager to try and get things over the line as soon as possible so that he can start working with the defender.
Ducor Sports contacted the player’s representative for confirmation of Ochieng’s arrival in Kenya, however, he could not be reached by the time of publication.
