Heron Ferreira Returns To Al Merreikh For Second Spell As Coach

Heron Ricardo Ferreira has returned to Al Merreikh for a second spell as coach, the Sudan Premier League giants announced on Saturday.

The Brazilian, who was previously in charge of Al Merreikh between 2011 and 2012, has agreed a three-year deal at the Red Castle.

Ferreira replaces Tunisian coach Ghazi Ghrairi, who was fired on Friday, only three weeks after he led them to the group stages of the CAF Champions League.

The 64-year-old, Ferreira had previously been in charge of Egyptian Premier League side Ismaily, a position that he left in December 2020.

Ferreira, who has a solid reputation in the Middle East, won Sudan Cup with Al Merreikh in the 2012 and steered the team to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals of the same season.

He also had a stint in Sudan with Al Hilal Omdurman, and he led the team to three back to back Premier League titles.

Also under Ricardo’s guidance, the Blue Waves achieved an astonishing record of 110 consecutive home games without a single loss in all competitions.

Al Merreikh had a good start to the season but results worsened and the board decided to make a change after a draw with Al Ahly Merowe left them second in the table with 7 points after four games.
