Hubert Velud: Burkina Faso Appoint Former Sudan Coach As New Manager

Frenchman Hubert Velud has been appointed as the new coach of Burkina Faso’s national team on a two-year deal.

The 62-year-old former Sudan, Togo, JS Kabylie, TP Mazembe and Etoile du Sahel boss replaces Kamou Malo, whose contract was not renewed in February.

Velud was relieved his duties as Sudan coach after Falcons of Jediane struggled in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup.

However, he had already achieved the Sudan FA target of guiding the team to 2021 Africa Cup of Nations where they played against Nigeria, Egypt and Guinea-Bissau.

Velud managed the Sparrow Hawks of Togo between 2009 and 2010, and was one the coaches caught in the machine gun ambush ahead of the 2010 Nations Cup tournament in Angola.

His spells in Africa include stints at North African clubs Hassania Agadir, ES Setif, USM Alger and CS Constantine.

Velud first major task will be to lead the Stallions to the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year.

Burkina Faso have been drawn in Group B alongside his former charges Togo, Cape Verde, and Eswatini.
