Ivorian Forward Gervinho Joins Greek Side Aris Thessaloniki

Greek Super Lig club Aris Thessaloniki has announced the signing of Ivory Coast international Gervinho on a one-year deal.

The 35-year-old makes a switch from Trabzonspor after spending one season at the Turkish club.

He scored two goals in his 13 Turkish Super Lig appearances for Trabzonspor before suffering a career-threatening injury in October 2021.

Gervinho, who has twice been voted his country’s footballer of the year, moved to Trabzonspor from after getting relegated from the Italian top flight with Parma.

The Ivorian international scored five goals in 27 appearances for Parma in the 2020/2021 campaign but could not prevent them from dropping down to Serie B.

He has become a journeyman since leaving Lille for Arsenal in the summer of 2011, turning out for the likes of AS Roma and Hebei China Fortune before joining the Gialloblu in 2018.

Gervinho has played in five Nations Cup tournaments in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015. He also played for his country at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.

At Thessaloniki, the striker will earn no more than £424,000 a year, which is roughly £8,000 a week.Greek media reports indicate that it  will be a huge wage cut from his £24,000-a-week deal in Turkey.
