Ivory Coast Name Frenchman Jean-Louis Gasset As New Coach

Ivory Coast have named Frenchamn Jean-Louis Gasset as their new head coach to replace Patrice Beaumelle.

The 68-year-old will just have one week to prepare his team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zambia.

The Ivorian Football Federation sacked their previous coach last month when the team lost 3-0 to England in an international friendly played in March, and they were known to be seeking a high-profile replacement.

Gasset has signed a one-year contract with an option of a further year in his deal, as they country prepares to host next year’s Afcon finals.

He comes with much experience having served as assistant coach of the France national team from July 2010 to June 2012 under Laurent Blanc.

He previously coached French top-flight sides Montpellier, Saint-Etienne, Bordeaux, Istres as well as Caen and comes with a lot of experience.

Gasset was also previously assistant manager of French clubs such as Paris Saint Germain, Saint-Etienne, Bordeaux and Spanish side Espanyol.

Former Ivory Coast midfielder Emerse Fae, who played for Nantes, Reading and Nice , has been named his assistant.

The Elephants will play their second Group H match away to Lesotho in Johannesburg four days later.
