Former Cameroon international Jean Makoun has revealed that he hopes to end his football career in Africa.

Former Cameroon international Jean Makoun has revealed that he hopes to end his football career in Africa.

The veteran midfielder recently parted ways with Cypriote club Merit Alsancak Yesilova SK after his contract expired in January 2020.

Makoun, who is now 36, has been training at his home in Paris to keep fit amid speculations that he may join Congolese giants, TP Mazembe.

The former Aston Villa player had earlier been linked with a move to Cameroon’s top-flight side Feutcheu FC of Njiko Bandjoun but the planned switch failed to materialize.

“My dream is to play again in Africa. For now, the virus is everyone’s worry, signing for a club is not my priority,” Makoun told Cameroonian portal, Kick 442.com

Makoun began his career in his native Cameroon at Cotonsport Garoua where he was part of the youth set-up.

He had spells at fellow Cameroon sides, Jeunesse Star and Tonnerre Yaounde, before eventually moving to France to join Lille and then Lyon in June 2008.

One of the highlights of his time with Lyon came in February 2010 when he scored the only goal in Lyon’s Champions League win over Real Madrid.

In 2011, Makoun joined English Premier League side Aston Villa and was immediately loaned to Olympiacos and later to Stade Rennais on a permanent deal.

Makoun later moved to Turkey where he joined Antalyaspor as a free agent before making a move to Merit Alsancak Yesilova SK in Cyprus.

The midfielder made his Cameroon debut in 2003 and retired from international football in 2014 with five goals in 68 games for his country.
