Congolese striker Jean-Marc Mundele Makusu will return to AS Vita for the 2021/2022 season after his loan deal with Orlando Pirates, according to reports.
The 29-year-old joined Pirates on a season-long loan in November with an option to make the move permanent next season.
His loan spell at the Buccaneers expires at the end of June and there’s no sign of the side looking to keep him around, having only managed to score one goal since his arrival.
Now Makusu feels he can’t bear the thought of staying on at the South Africa Premier League outfit, where he’s been warming the bench.
“With the way things are looking at the moment, he has made up his mind. He wants to go back to his club. He was promised that he is going to get game time as soon as he understands how the team wants him to play. But he believes that he has done that and feels that they don’t really need him,” a source said to The Citizen.
“He came into the team highly recommended and was promised that this is where he is going to flourish. Right now he doesn’t think that is going to happen anytime soon. The guys at the club have told him that he has to wait for his time and things will work out, but the season is about to end. There is no way that he will agree to stay at the club should they (Pirates) consider extending his stay, but again, that’s unless they convince him otherwise.”
In the few minutes of domestic football he’s had this season (78 minutes in total), Makusu has looked devoid of confidence and fluffed some simple chances.
Makusu, who has previously played for Standard Liege in Belgium, had regular goal scoring experience in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup with AS Vita.
The star striker was meant to sign RS Berkane in 2019 but he suffered a double leg break that kept him out for several months, scarpering a deal between Vita and the Moroccan club.
