Jesse Were declared his thanks and love for Zesco United after he notched his 100th goal for the Zambian Super League giants in all competitions.
The 32-year-old striker made history on Sunday when he scored a hat-trick as Zega Mambo humbled Kitwe United 4-0 in a Super League fixture at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The Kenyan international opened the scoring in the eight minute before adding the second at the half-hour mark. He made history in the 56th minute as he scored a hat-trick that marked his century at the club.
Following the landmark achievement, Were was grateful to God and thanked his team-mates together with his coaches in an interview carried by Zesco United portal on Monday.
“I would like to thank God for this opportunity and for giving me an opportunity to play for ZESCO United. It is a massive milestone in my career. Getting a century of goals for the club makes me feel very happy and motivated especially when I look at the way the team is playing,” Were said.
“When you leave home your usually go searching and I thank God that the searching is over especially that I have put in 100 goals for the team. I am positive there will be a lot to come.
“I wish to thank my teammates and the technical bench for their support and for encouraging me in good and bad times. It hasn’t been an easy season for me but with everyone’s support, I have kept on pushing. I am very happy I have managed to achieve this milestone. I am motivated to work even harder.”
Were joined Zesco United five years ago and has enjoyed success on the pitch, winning the league title on three occasions.
He has also won the domestic cup title while helping the team get to the semi-finals of the African Champions League. He was also nominated as the Africa based Player of the Year in 2016.
