Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has ruled out an early return for the club’s most important forward, Sadio Mane despite Senegal including him in their final squad for qualifiers on 10th and 14th. While speaking to the press ahead of the Tottenham clash, Klopp admitted he would rather have Mane back in action sooner than the Senegal game but the forward was not ready.
The 25-year-old forward sustained a grade two hamstring injury while on national duty that is likely to keep him out of action for about six weeks.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“If he is fit earlier, I would be really happy. But nobody knows at this moment. Sadio is still in rehab. He is indoors. He is not in any exercises outside; I can imagine they (Senegal) feel the pressure a little bit,”[/perfectpullquote]
Klopp told the reporters.
“If he’s fit, we cannot hide him. we can do nothing to keep him.” Klopp added.
Mane was Liverpool’s 2016/17 player of the season despite missing a month while at the African Nations. During his absence, Liverpool who had mounted a title challenge crumbled losing seven consecutive games before his return.
The side looks a bit stronger with the arrival of Egyptian sensation Mohammed Salah but the space left by the 25-year-old is clearly visible. They go into the Tottenham game in dire need of a win but will be beaming with confidence after their 7-0 Champions League win over NK Maribor.
