Zambia national team captain Kabaso Chongo has been expelled from his country’s squad and sent home from Kenya for technical reasons.
The senior national team is in Nairobi preparing to depart for South Africa where they will play Bafana Bafana on Sunday in Rustenburg.
According to various reports, Chongo exploded in rage in the dressing room, verbally abusing one of the team coaches after Chipolopolo’s 2-1 defeat to Kenya.
“We have been informed by the technical bench in Kenya who have furnished us with their reasons. We wish the player all the best in his career and future assignments,” FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala has said.
“The team is in good spirits ahead of the high profile game with Bafana Bafana on Sunday. We also wish to encourage them to soldier on after the 2-1 loss to Kenya on Friday that was part of the preparatory matches for the November back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.”
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has asked the Technical and Development Committee to conduct an investigation into the matter and report back to the Executive Committee at its meeting in Lusaka on Monday.
Chipolopolo coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic is expected to name Zesco United’s midfielder Bruce Musakanya to captain the team on October 11 against South Africa.
Zambia have played two friendly matches in the last four days, having defeated Malawi by a solitary goal in Lusaka before their 2-1 loss to Kenya on Friday.
