Zambia Super League side Kabwe Warriors have announced the signing of a Ugandan international defender Shafiq Batambuze on a two-year deal.
The 26-year-old signs after his contract with Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia came to an end at the end of last season.
The move was announced by the Railmen on Thursday after Batambuze trained with the club for several days.
“Kabwe Warriors is pleased to announce the signing of Ugandan International left-back Shafik Batambuze from Gor Mahia,” confirmed Kabwe Warriors on the club’s official Facebook page.
“Batambuze has signed a two-year contract with the Magnificent People’s Team.”
The highly-rated left-back started his career at Simba FC- now Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force (UPDF FC) before he signed for Muhoroni FC which was his first Kenyan club in 2011.
He later travelled back to native Uganda where he was signed by Sports Club Villa before returning to Kenya in 2013 to play for Western Stima.
He served Sofapaka on loan before he was signed by Tusker where he made his name before being snapped by Tanzanian outfit Singida United.
Batambuze returned to Kenya in 2018 as a replacement for Godfrey Walusmbi who had joined South African Premier Soccer League giants Kaizer Chiefs.
He was released by Gor Mahia at the start of 2020-21 season just weeks after recovering from a knee injury that he suffered while playing for the KPL champions against Aigle Noir of Burundi in last season’s African Champions League preliminary round tie.
