Kenyan international Francis Kahata has ditched Gor Mahia and joined Tanzanian giants, Simba SC, the club has confirmed.

Kahata’s contract with the Kenyan champions expired at the end of June. He had been offered a new deal by the K’Ogalo but he turned it down ending his three-year association with the Hassan Oktay coached side.

The Msimbasi street-based side had been trailing the left-footed midfielder for a couple of months and on Thursday evening, the chase came to an end when they confirmed that the player had signed a two-year contract with the club.

“Kenyan midfielder Francis Kahata has joined Simba Sports Club, he was part of Kenya’s African Cup of Nations squad in Egypt.  He is now part of Simba after signing a two-year deal. He won three league titles with Gor Mahia and was named Gor player of the season twice,” Simba announced in a statement posted on their social media pages.

An alumnus of Chania High School, Kahata started out at Thika United, a side he played for between 2008 and 2015. He then left the club for Albanian side, FK Tirana. His stay there was however short-lived and he returned to the country in 2015. He then joined Gor in December 2015.

Kahata is a full Kenyan international. He is best remembered for his wonderful free kick against Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier that was played in Calabar Nigeria in 2013.
