Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, will miss his side’s African Champions League Group C clash against Petro de Luanda on Saturday 6 March in Johannesburg, after he was granted a compassionate leave.
The South Africa international lost his sister in a fire accident at their family home in the North West and has been excused from the game against Petro so that he can attend to the matter.
Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed that the goalkeeper will miss the game and has already been excused.
“Yes it does (affect his selection). It’s a very sad time for Itu and his family, so he is obviously away,” Hunt told journalists during a press conference on Friday.
“He won’t play tomorrow and hopefully things will get sorted out given the difficulty around what’s happened. So he won’t be playing.”
In his absence Daniel Akpeyi is expected to earn the starting berth in a match set to be played at the FNB Stadium.
Chiefs have already faced Angolan opponents in the CAF Champions League this season when they eliminated Primeiro de Agosto.
The Amakhosi will be targeting their first win of the group stages after starting with a draw and a loss, while Petro have lost their first two games.
