Kaizer Chiefs Keeper Ruled Out Of The Rest Of The Season

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will miss the final two South Africa Premier Soccer League matches of the season due to a head injury.

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will miss the final two South Africa Premier Soccer League matches of the season due to a head injury.

The 34-year-old was hurt when clearing the ball in Chief’s 1-0 loss to Bidvest Wits on Sunday and was replaced by Bruce Brvuma.

The Amakhosi said its medical team will continue monitoring him as he recovers from what doctors described as a concussion.

“Daniel Akpeyi suffered a concussion on Sunday against Wits. He is ruled out for the next two matches. The medical team will continue monitoring his recovery process. We wish him a speedy recovery,” said the club in a statement.

The Nigeria international’s injury is a blow to Chiefs who are fighting to snatch Absa Premiership title from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

Akpeyi joined Chiefs from Chippa United in January last year and has played 25 of their Absa Premiership matches this season.

He has conceded 23 goals as part of the tightest defence in the division.

The former Warri Wolves player, capped 21 times by Nigeria, was carried off on Saturday in a development which could badly affect their league title aspirations.

Itumeleng Khune, who hasn’t been in the matchday squads since the resumption of the season, is expected to start in the remaining two matches.
