Kakamega Homeboyz Players And Staff Agree On Pay Cut

Kenya Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday announced that they have reached an agreement with players and staff to lower their wages for the next few months.

Kenya Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday announced that they have reached an agreement with players and staff to lower their wages for the next few months.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) recently announced that football in the country has been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Due to the economic impact of the outbreak on football clubs in Kenya, all the players, as well as members of the technical bench, have agreed to take a 50 per cent pay cut.

“Kakamega Homeboyz players to take 50 per cent pay cut due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic,” the club announced on their Facebook page.

“This is after the President of Kenya H. E. Uhuru Kenyatta took such direction earlier in the week and Homeboyz players have followed suit to become the first team to do so! Bravo to the Boyz!”

The new development was confirmed by the club Chief Executive Officer Bernard Shitiabayi, saying that they followed the suit of their sponsors, the County Government of Kakamega, who announced that its employees would take a pay cut.

Earlier this month Kenya Premier League Limited (KPL) moved to suspend the league owing to the effect of the coronavirus.

The league committee placed April 4 as a tentative date to resume but after consulting with the Ministry of Health.

Homeboyz sit second in the league with 47 points and have one game in hand compared to table leaders Gor Mahia.
