KCCA FC need to avoid complacency when they take on Petro du Luanda in a Champions League first round, second leg clash at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Friday 27 September.
The Kasasiro Boys played to a goalless draw when the two sides met in Luanda two weeks ago, a scoreline that is often deceptive in two-legged knockout football.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference yesterday, KCCA coach Mike Mutebi was optimistic that his charges would produce positive results.
“We picked up a decent result away in Luanda against a technically gifted side and we have organized better to get a win. We are playing against a very organized side that plays very well and plays on the front foot but will also help us play our way,” Mutebi said in a pre-match press conference.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “Clubs from Angola have always given us a headache but we won’t sit back. It’s going to be a very interesting match. It will be an all-out attack. We want to see good football and good football is punctuated by goals.” [/perfectpullquote]
Should Kasasiro Boys lock out the Angolans, they will progress to the money-spinning Champions League group stages.
If KCCA fail to beat Petro du Luanda, they will drop to the second round of Confederation Cup where they will meet another team before they can qualify for group stages.
Meanwhile, the mood at Petro’s camp is equally positive and bullish as the Luanda giants coach Toni Casano said that his charges are prepared for the clash as they are in Kampala to pick a win.
“We came here to win, yes, we settled for a goalless draw in Luanda, something we had not planned for but here we shall play and win regardless of being on away ground”, coach Casano vowed.
KCCA eliminated Namibia’s African Stars on a 3-2 aggregate in the preliminary round over two legs last month to advance to this stage.
