Embattled Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa has been granted temporary freedom by the courts but will have to deposit either a Ksh 15 million (USD 133,289) bond or alternative cash bail of Sh10 million (USD 88,859).
He has also been ordered to deposit his passport by the Milimani Law Courts.
Mwendwa appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Eunice Nyutu on Tuesday after spending five days in police custody.
Mwendwa, an adherent supporter of FIFA president Gianni Infantino, faced four counts of fraud where he is accused of taking from FKF just over Kshs 38 million – which is approximately $337,200.
He was represented by lawyers Prof Tom Ojienda, Dr John Khaminwa, Erick Mutua, Mutula Kilonzo and Charles Njenga in the case.
The court ruled that the besieged federation official should not attend to any football activity and should also not set foot into his office located at Kandanda House.
Mwendwa spent the entire weekend at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi facing interrogation officers.
He was first represented in court on Monday where he refused to take plea stating the police and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) violated his rights.
It was that reason that the magistrate detained him until Tuesday where the football administrator denied charges before his lawyers pleaded with the Court to grant him bond.
Kenyan football is currently under caretaker committee following disbandment of FKF by Sports Ministry Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed and it will run football matters in the country for six months before handing it to newly elected officials.
