Kenya and Santos FC legend Musa Otieno has recovered from the coronavirus, local media reported on Wednesday.

Otieno’s elder brother Barrack Ouma told Citizen Digital that the ex- Harambee Stars defender has “completely recovered” after contracting the virus last month.

Prior to the illness, Musa was on the forefront in helping vulnerable Kenyans through his Kick Off To Hope organisation, which supports more than 600 needy families in the low-income areas of Nairobi.

Otieno is one of Kenya’s most decorated Kenyan footballers, having made his national team debut against DR Congo in 1993 at the age of 19.

Otieno hanged his boots in June 2011 after a lucrative career in the South African PSL league for a record 13 seasons.

Before retirement, Otieno was the Santos Team captain between 2005 -2008 and served as a part of the team’s technical bench due to his extensive experience both on and off the pitch.

Otieno registered over 300 appearances and scored 30 goals for Santos helping them win the PSL Championship in the season 2001/02.

He has been an assistant coach to Kenya national team under Bobby Williamson and Stanley Okumbi.
