Kenyan Premier League side Tusker FC have confirmed that defender David Mwangi, who featured for the club in the past, has passed on.
Mwangi, who has also featured for Mathare United and Sony Sugar, passed on at a hospital in Nakuru, Central Kenya after a short illness.
“We are saddened to learn of the demise of our former left back David ‘Kangi’ Mwangi,” Tusker said.
“Mwangi featured for the team in the 2017-18 season.May his soul Rest in Eternal Peace.”
Before joining Tusker, the defender was on the books of league giants Mathare United where he was part of the team that finished sixth in the Kenyan Premier League table.
Former Mathare United coach Francis Kimanzi has been consoling the family and says that it was a great privilege to have worked with him.
“He is a player I admired so much because he gave me the results I wanted. I am happy it was during my time at the club that we saw the best of him. He was a player of good character and I am proud to have worked with him,” said Kimanzi.
Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) released a statement expressing profound sadness at the passing of their former member.
“Our heartfelt condolences for the demise of our member, David ‘Mamba’ Mwangi,” read a statement from Kefwa.
“Mwangi was a talented and amazing footballer, plying his trade with bigwigs Mathare United Fc, Sony Sugar Fc, Ushuru Fc and Nairobi Stima Fc, among others. Our prayers and comfort are with the family, friends and the entire Kenyan football fraternity. His legacy will live on”.
