Kenyan Premier League: Table-Topping Gor Mahia Eyeing Sixteenth Title

Gor Mahia has set its sights on lifting the Kenyan Premier League title for the sixteenth time as they lead the table top. Held to a drab one-all stalemate by tenth-placed AFC Leopards in a local derby on Sunday, it was Mahia’s fifth draw of the ongoing season.

The Government –sobriquet of the club – remains on top of things, collecting a combined 44 points in 21 games with 13 wins and losing just thrice so far.

Six points separate them with second-placed Sofapaka who are on 38 points coming on the heels of a 1-1 tie with Posta Rangers over the weekend. Sofapaka is, despite the gap, still in contention of the staked prize but have eight games left to leapfrog Gor from the summit.

Earlier on Saturday, Nakumatt bit the dust to Nzola United 1-0 while Chemelli canned Muhoroni Youth also on a similar score.

Bandari drew Mathare United 2-2 as Homeboyz also applied the brakes on Tusker’s run, grinding out a 1-1 draw with them with Zoo Kericho spanking bottom-placed Western Stima 4-2.

SoNy Sugar and Kariobangi Sharks settled for a goalless affair.

There won’t be any league action in the KPL until Saturday with three games to play following the postponement of the scheduled match between Kariobangi Sharks and AFC Leopards.
