Kenya’s League MVP Not Bothered by Expectations at New Club

Kenneth Muguna is least bothered by buzzing expectations at Gor Mahia after signing from Western Stima. The 20-year-old joined Gor Mahia on a three-year deal running until 2019.

The midfielder switches to The Earthquake outfit on the back of a brilliant display the previous term for Stima.

The youngster’s move to 15-time Kenya Premier League title winners is expected to come with huge pressure and club fans are already fired-up over the side’s acquisition of last campaign’s best player.

But Muguna insists he is under no pressure saying, his days of being perturbed by pressure are behind him.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“Everywhere every club has expectations. So I’m not bothered by that so long as I stay healthy, train harder and also believe in myself,”[/perfectpullquote]

he tells Ducor Sports from Nairobi.

“I think the time I used to be under pressure has passed long time ago and that was when I was playing my first match in Kenya Premier League with Western Stima.

“So, for now, I’m not bothered by anything. All I’m thinking of now is how I will help Gor Mahia to be champions again.”

A raft of clubs, including those outside of Kenya, queued up for the fast-rising starlet but Mahia managed to win over Muguna with the transfer figure reported to be in the excess of KES 1m.

Revealing why he shunned overtures abroad to settle for Mahia, Muguna says the pursuit for a huge challenge including his recent inclusion in the East African country’s national team, were contributing factors.

He added, “Gor is one of the biggest clubs in Africa.”

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“I choose Gor because I needed a big challenge because now am already a big player in Kenya, and also remember, my national team needs me so I have to make sure I make big decisions to benefit my club, my national team, and also myself.[/perfectpullquote]

“I think I am where am supposed to be. I’m at the right club.”

The 20-year-old is with his new club in pre-season preparations.
