The Togolese striker lifted his Al Ain jersey over his head after scoring in team’s 2-1 Arabian Gulf League win over Al Furairah on Thursday.

The UAE FA said it has fined the forward 2000 Dirhams ($540) for displaying a white T-shirt with two photos printed above the word “Respect Idole”.

Al Ain manager Pedro Emmanuel is reported to have cautioned Laba for raising his shirt over his head in accordance with federation rules.

Laba joined Al Ain as a free agent after his contract with Moroccan side Renaissance Berkane in June last year.

This was after impressing at Berkane, scoring 18 goals to finish as the league’s second-highest scorer just one less of Raja Casablanca’s Moussine Iajour.

His impressive season also saw him finish as top scorer in the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup with eight goals as Berkane lost to Egypt’s Zamalek in the final.

The 27-year old has so far scored 18 goals in the Arabian Gulf League. His contract with the club will end in 2022.

Laba made his international debut on 5th June 2016 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia.

So far the forward has made 25 appearances for Togo, scoring 12 goals and featured in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
