Togo Football Federation president Kossi Akpovy will stand for re-election when his term of office comes to an end in February next year.
The FTF regions will appoint new leadership on February 16 and Akpovy revealed on Wednesday that he would throw his name in the hat for a second term.
“Yes, I want to continue and finish what we started … If people trust us to continue, we will do it. But if they do not trust us, they will set up a new committee that will do the job, ” he said in a phone interview.
Akpovy added that the current leadership should be evaluated on the work they have done since coming into office and the regions should then decide if they deserved to be allowed to complete the many projects that are currently underway across the country.
“We are proud of our track record because we have practically completed all the elements we mentioned when taking office,” Akpovy said.
“Today you will see that our clubs that qualified for this year’s continental cups have performed very well. It gives us the joy of seeing our teams making achievements. Compared to the national team, this is not what we expect but we are growing, ”he concluded.
Akpovy has been at the helm for four years since surviving multiple court challenges and chaotic last-minute disputes to become FTF president in 2016.
He saw off fierce rival Germain Wona in the first round by overwhelming majority getting 25 votes to Wona’s 16.
