Kwesi Appiah Linked With Vacant Sudan Coaching Job

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is reportedly being lined up for the vacant position at Falcon of Jidane, according to reports in Sudanese media.

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is reportedly being lined up for the vacant position at Falcon of Jidane, according to reports in Sudanese media.

The Sudan national team coaching job was made vacant after Zdravko Logarusic parted ways with the federation after a series of unsatisfactory results.

The Croatian was shown the door in December last year, weeks after the team’s elimination from the Africa Nations Championship campaign after losing to Tanzania in the second round of the qualifiers.

The 59-year-old Appiah has previously been in charge of Sudanese Premier League side Khartoum SC and most recently, the Ghana national team.

The experienced tactician led Black Stars through 20 games, winning nine, losing six and drew the remaining five.

Despite his respectful record, his side’s performance was unconvincing, especially when they faced strong sides.

At the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, the four-time champions barely made it out of their group before losing to Tunisia 5-6 on penalties.

In his first stint at Black Stars, Appiah guided the Black Stars to the 2014 World Cup, becoming the first local coach to achieve that feat.

Sudan had a good start to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers where they claimed a 4-0 win at home against Sao Tome but the team went on to lose 1-0 to South Africa.
