Lesotho FA Writes To CAF Asking To Postpone Likuena Match With Cote d’Ivoire

Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) has penned a request to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) asking to postpone the  2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier pitting Lesotho’s Likuena against Cote d’Ivoire slated for June 7.

The Likuenas are scheduled to host the Elephants in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers Group H clash at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, but the LeFA want the match postponed to a new date.

“The Lesotho Football Association has written to the Confederations of African Football (CAF), requesting that its 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group H match with Cote d’Ivoire be moved to a new date to give Likuena players adequate time recover from the jetlag and also have proper preparations in between their two opening matches initially set for June 3rd and June 7th respectively,” the LeFA said in statement posted on their official Facebook page.

“This, LeFA has done after establishing challenges that comes with flying in and out of Comoros, who host Likuena’s opening match of Group H on June 3 in Moroni, while the following match against Cote d’Ivoire is scheduled for Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on June 7th.”

Lesotho secured a spot in the Group phase of the qualifiers for the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations  following a 3-1 aggregate victory of Seychelles.

The Likuenas was pitted alongside the hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Comoros, and Zambia in Group H of the second phase of the qualifiers.

Lesotho has played both Comoros and Zambia over the years in different competitions, but Cote d’ voire are a closed book as the two countries have never faced each other before.

The Southern Africa country has never qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations as they have always been eliminated in the preliminary round but they intend to change the situation.
