Lone Star Back On Track After Narrow Win Over Central African Republic

Liberia have put themselves back on track in Group C of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after a 1-0 win over Central African Republic at the Stade de la Reunification in Douala, Cameroon on Monday afternoon.

Kpah Sherman scored the only goal of the game to see Lone Star join Nigeria in a two way tie at the top of the pool and recover from their 2-0 loss at the hands of the West African side last week.

The Lone Star though are very likely to go on top by beating Cape Verde in back-to-back matches next month.

Both teams showed their intent from the onset with Liberia left-back Sampson Dweh and Central African Republic forward Delphin Mokonou firing a shot on target in the opening ten minutes of the match.

The best chance of the first-half fell at Ayouba Kosiah feet on the cusp of half-time, but Prince Samolah made a good save to deny the burly forward from finding the back of the net from range.

Central African Republic forced Ashley William into action 10 minutes after the interval with Sadock Ndobé sending his effort straight at the custodian.

Midway through the second half Abu Kamara went on an extraordinary solo run which started inside his own half and ended with him cutting onto his left foot inside the penalty area, but his shot was way high and wide.

On 76th minutes the Les Fauves threatened again, with Trresor Toropite teeing up Axel Urie to shoot from just inside the penalty, but the attacker pulled his effort narrowly wide of Williams’ right-hand post.

Liberia turned screw in the closing stages of the match and their efforts were rewarded on the 86th minute when a mistake in defence allowed Sherman to place a powerful shot past Samolah.
