Liberia FA President: ‘I Will Use My Personal Funds to Travel to FIFA and CAF Trips’

Liberia Football Association (LFA) president Mustapha Raji says he does not need any traveling allowance from the local football house as president when taking FIFA and CAF trips.

Liberia Football Association (LFA) president Mustapha Raji says he does not need any traveling allowance from the local football house as president when taking FIFA and CAF trips.

Mr. Raji, who replaced former LFA President Musa Bility after winning on white ballot on September 8, 2018, following the withdrawal of then-candidate Musa Shannon, made the announcement during his first address to the press on Friday, January 18, 2019.

He said it will be unfair to receive traveling allowance from the LFA when allowances are provided on some of those trips, adding: “I am grateful that God has placed me a position that I can afford and we don’t want to deprive the young people of that money that can be used to develop sports that passionate young people can benefit from.”
“There are trips that we go on at FIFA level. They do not give you compensation. You get breakfast only and are responsible to cover your lunch and dinner. There are some trips that they provide funding. At the level of CAF, there are trips that they provide you with allowances. So I think it’s unfair to Liberia and the Liberian people to be going on a CAF trip and receive money from the Liberia Football Association as allowance and then receive money from CAF as allowance,” he said.

The recent statement from the Liberian FA boss does not come as a surprise after he waived his four years honorarium after taking office.

His decision was also backed by other officials including, Vice President for Operations Wilmot Smith and Executive Committee members Quiwu P. Yekeh who waived theirs for the same period.
