Liberia will host Cape Verde at the Accra Sports Stadium, Ghana on October 7, in their second home match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 African Second Round Qualifiers.
The Liberia Football Association (LFA) confirmed the development few days after cancellation of Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspection team’s visit to the banned Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.
Liberia had no choice but prepare to play in Ghana as well as continue fixing SKD for next home match against Super Eagles of Nigeria in November.
“The Liberia Football Association and Ghana Sports Council (GSC) have agreed to rent the Accra Sports Stadium to serve as a home ground for Liberia,” reads LFA’s statement.
“Liberia will take on Cape Verde in a World Cup qualifier on 7 October in Accra and 12 October in Praia.
“The GSC had charged US$20,000 but the Liberian government will pay US$15,000, excluding other match coordination costs, following appeals by Sports Minister Zeogar Wilson.
“A team from Monrovia will be dispatched to Ghana to begin match coordination with Ghana Football Association.”
A source at CAF disclosed to Ducor Sports that LFA had filled appeal on SKD Stadium’s ban which wasn’t accepted mainly because the period is too short for them to delay the confirmation of the match.
Earlier this month, LFA stated that they had cancelled requested the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to cancel the “Re-inspection visit” of Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex (SKD) which was scheduled for 12-13 September to November.
Liberia are currently second in Group C three points shy of leaders Nigeria who will visit Monrovia on Match Day 5 of the second round of Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifiers
