Lookman Named In Nigeria World Cup 2022 Playoff Squad

Ademola Lookman has been named in Nigeria squad for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff fixtures against Ghana.

Lookman, who turns for Premier League side Leicester City, switched his allegiance from England to Nigeria in February.

The 24-year-old had turned for England at youth level and was part of the squad that won Under-20 World Cup in 2017.

The London native was born to Nigerian parents and grew up in Peckham but never played for England’s senior team.

Nigeria will take on Ghana in the first leg on the 25 March before hosting the second leg on Tuesday, 29 March in Abuja.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Al Hilal’s Odion Ighalo has been included in the squad after missing the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

Goalkeepers Maduka Okoye and Francis Uzoho, defenders Kenneth Omeruo and Abdullahi Shehu, midfielders Joseph Ayodele-Aribo and Akinkunmi Amoo and forwards Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze are also on the roster.

However, Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi has not been included in the squad following his red card in Nigeria’s Nations Cup last-16 defeat by Tunisia.

Midfielders: Joe Aribo (Rangers, Scotland), Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City, England), Frank Onyeka (Brentford, England), Peter Etebo (Watford, England), Akinkunmi Amoo ( FC Copenhagen, Denmark).

Forwards: Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal, Spain), Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City, England), Moses Simon (Nantes, France), Sadiq Umar (Almeria, Spain), Ahmed Musa (Fatih Karagumruk, Turkey), Victor Osimhen (Napoli, Italy), Odion Ighalo (Al Hilal, Saudi Arabia) Emmanuel Dennis (Watford, England), Ademola Lookman (Leicester City, England).
