Zesco United coach George Lwandamina says nothing but victory will do against Primeiro de Agosto, in their CAF Champions League set to be played Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday 25 January.
The two teams ate tied at the bottom of Group A with just two points apiece and verging on elimination. In fact, a draw of any kind for both sides will mathematically lock both sides from the knockout phase of the competition.
“We are going into this match to play and to win. You can’t go into a match to lose. We still have to fight and come out of the troubled waters because we have a big reputation to protect,” the coach said in a pre-match interview.
Zesco have been on a run of terrible form both domestically and in the Champions League, though it is expected their Wednesday win against Buildcon in a FAZ Super League match will boost their morale.
“This is an important fixture to us. I expect a highly competitive match. Although in the recent past we have dipped in form, the boys are aware of how important this fixture is. We have to protect our integrity and the integrity of the club,” he added.
TP Mazembe leads Group A with 11 points with one match remaining, three ahead of second-placed Zamalek, whom they held to a goalless draw in a match that was played on Friday night.
Should Zesco fail to beat Primeiro de Agosto, Zamalek will secure passage to the last eight before meeting the Angolans in their final match, given their better head-to-head record over Agosto.
